Red Coyote

Fri, November 11, 2011

I saw this coyote when I was bowhunting a few days ago, and I think it must be the prettiest coyote I have ever seen.  I am not much for mounting coyotes, but this one would have to get some taxidermial consideration (I know that taxidermial is not a word, but darn it, it should be!) had I shot it.

Very cool.  It looks like it me be a coy-dog.  Beautiful either way.  I’ve seen red phased coyotes before, but never this red.

Treehugger,

It sounds goofy, but when I saw it, the thought crossed my mind about a red wolf.  I know it isn’t a wolf, but that was something that crossed my mind.-Darin DeNeal

Beautiful animal.  I’ve got one or two which are that red running on my farm.  And likewise, if I take one, he will be full body mounted.  Thanks for sharing.

As much as I hate those things, they really are beautiful predators.  I have one full body mounted, but I wish he was a red one.

That would be one cool skin for the wall!!!!

Awesome video!  I’ve got a brindle yote at the tannery right now and cant wait to get it back.

Not only is the video cool, I like the tease with the “energy drink” or “wrestling move” terms.  I’m also with you on creating your own words when a “real” one doesn’t do the trick.  Good stuff all around.

Could that thing be a “foxote”  I first thought it was a red fox.  Do and/or can a coyote mate with a fox????

@ GALENABOB-I’ve wondered about that, too.  A fox and coyote would be capable of cross breeding.  However, I think it would be very doubtful they would.  As a general rule, coyotes and foxes don’t live in the same area.  They coyotes will kill foxes that come into their territory.  Part of the reason so many foxes live in towns or right on the edge.  They may run very close to each other-like near my farm, I have seen fox up to about 3/8 of a mile from town, but rarely see coyotes that close.  The fox den is at an old barn which is falling in on itself on the edge of town.
